AAOIFI Standard • 7,200+ Stocks Coverage

Shariah-Compliant
Stock Data API.

The only API built for Islamic finance. Get screening under five Shariah methodologies — AAOIFI primary — across four markets, AI-powered regulatory filings analysis, and proprietary halal stock scores — all via simple REST endpoints.

What You Get

Comprehensive halal stock data powered by transparent Islamic financial criteria.

Debt Ratio Analysis

Interest-bearing debt measured against the 12-quarter average market capitalisation. Every ticker screened against the strict AAOIFI 30% threshold so you know exactly where each company stands.

Liquid Assets vs Market Cap

Cash and receivables compared against market capitalisation. Identifies whether a company's intrinsic value derives primarily from tangible assets or intangibles.

Impure Income Detection

AI-extracted prohibited revenue streams from regulatory filings (SEC 10-K / 10-Q, UK Companies House annual accounts, Canadian SEC 40-F + IR reports). Interest income, operating-lease debt, and haram segment revenue — all quantified.

Financial Ratios (Basic Report)

Debt, liquidity, and impure-income ratios computed from the latest filings, returned as ready-to-use decimals. The fastest path to a halal/non-halal verdict.

AI Filings Analysis

Our model reads regulatory filings the way a Shariah analyst would — 10-K and 10-Q footnotes for US, Companies House annual accounts for UK, SEC 40-F and IR reports for Canada — surfacing interest debt, operating leases, and prohibited segments other screeners miss.

Full Compliance Reports

End-to-end verdict with halal status, Akinda halal rating, every underlying ratio, and the AI-extracted financial breakdown — one endpoint, one JSON response.

Screening 4 markets today — see every covered country and download its ticker list.

Halal ETF Screening

The same stock screening, rolled up to the funds that hold them — five rulebooks per fund, rebuilt every night.

Screened By Its Basket

A fund has no filings of its own, so we screen what it holds: every constituent through the same stock screening, weighted by its share of the fund. Its name and label never enter the calculation.

Five Rulebooks Per Fund

The Akinda fund screen (AAOIFI-derived) plus Dow Jones Islamic Market, FTSE Shariah, MSCI Islamic and S&P Shariah. They are different standards and are expected to disagree; we publish all five rather than picking one.

Coverage Beside Every Verdict

The share of the fund's weight we hold a verdict for is served with the verdict. Below 95% with no breach already visible — or for a leveraged, inverse or long-short fund — the answer is "not rated by this method", never a guess.

Every Holding, Listed

The current basket, paged, largest weight first — each constituent with its own verdict under all five rulebooks where we rate it, and marked not rated where we do not, so you can show exactly which holdings move a fund.

Screener And Comparison

Filter the universe by verdict, rulebook, venue, domicile, coverage, fees and AUM, and put two or three funds side by side with the holdings they share.

Purification, Same As Stocks

A fund's non-compliant weight is served under every rulebook and is the purification input, exactly as a stock's non-compliant revenue share is.

Screening 3,585 funds across the US, UK and Canada, 7 of them halal on our fund screen (measured 2026-10-02) — see how a fund gets its verdict.

Methodology — Five Rulebooks

The same company, screened five ways.

AAOIFI is the verdict Akinda serves everywhere else. Alongside it, the four published index rulebooks — Dow Jones Islamic Market, FTSE Shariah, MSCI Islamic and S&P Shariah — each with its own denominator, thresholds and business exclusions, which is exactly why they disagree. Available on Business Ultimate and Business Enterprise. The panel is an excerpt: every group carries the same eighteen keys, and the API reference lists all of them.

ETF Screening — By The Basket

A fund is only as halal as what it holds.

One fund's verdict on the Akinda fund screen (AAOIFI-derived) and under the four index rulebooks, with the weight split behind it and the coverage it rests on. Available on Business Ultimate and Business Enterprise. The five are expected to disagree — this example reads doubtful on our fund screen and halal under S&P, and both are correct.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Akinda API and our screening methodology.

We follow AAOIFI (Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions) standards, the most widely accepted framework for Shariah compliance screening. Our thresholds are: Debt ratio < 30%, Liquidity ratio < 30%, and Impure income < 5%.
Financial ratios are updated quarterly from each company's regulatory filings — SEC EDGAR (10-K / 10-Q) for US tickers, Companies House annual accounts for UK tickers, and SEC 40-F plus company IR reports for Canadian tickers. AI-powered filing analysis runs within 48 hours of new submissions. Real-time stock prices are not included in this API.
Yes! Our API returns the exact impure income ratio and absolute dollar amounts. You can use these figures to calculate the purification amount: (shares owned × impure ratio × average stock price during holding period).
Absolutely. Our API is built for production use. We offer commercial licenses with higher rate limits, SLA guarantees, and dedicated support. Contact us for enterprise pricing.
Basic reports include the three core financial ratios (debt, liquidity, non-compliant revenue) plus the listing country and reporting currency. Full reports add AI-extracted figures from regulatory filings (SEC for US, Companies House for UK, IR + 40-F for Canada): dollar-denominated counterparts of every ratio, halal / doubtful / non-compliant revenue source breakdowns, interest-bearing debt, operating lease obligations, and proprietary Akinda ranking-score pillars (profitability, liquidity, financial strength, value, growth, momentum, dividend).
Create a free account, then open your Dashboard → API Keys and generate a key. Every new account starts on the Free plan, so you can begin testing straight away and upgrade whenever you need higher limits.
Personal plans (Basic, Standard, Ultimate) are self-serve through Stripe and scale on request volume and report depth — Basic covers the three core ratios; Ultimate adds full reports with the Akinda ranking score. Business plans (Standard, Ultimate, Enterprise) are contract-based for teams that need higher volume, more markets, and priority support.
Live Shariah verdicts today cover the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Uzbekistan. Business clients can be granted extra markets from our 21 covered countries on a per-contract basis.
Yes — 3,585 funds listed in the US, UK and Canada (measured 2026-10-02). Each is screened by what it holds: every constituent goes through the same stock screening, weighted by its share of the fund, and the result is recomputed every night. The ETF endpoints and fund comparison are available on Business Ultimate and Business Enterprise.
We decline to publish a verdict in two situations the data does not tell apart: we can see less than 95% of the fund's weight and what we can see has not already breached the limit, or the fund is leveraged, inverse or long-short, so a weighted roll-up of its holdings would not describe it. Many unrated funds have high coverage for the second reason, which is why we show coverage beside every verdict rather than describing an unrated fund as lacking data.
Because they are five different standards. Our headline — the Akinda fund screen (AAOIFI-derived) — is a portfolio-weight test; Dow Jones, FTSE, MSCI and S&P each apply their own per-company screens with their own thresholds and denominators. A fund can pass one and fail another, and both answers are correct, so we publish all five.
Yes. For as long as your subscription is valid you get help by email and through the live chat on the site — integration questions, rate limits, a specific verdict, or anything technical.
Requests over your plan's limit return a 429 response with headers showing your remaining quota and reset time. You can upgrade your plan, or for business needs contact us to raise the limits on your contract.
Start on the Business Request page (Pricing → a Business plan → Request) and enter your company details and needs. Within 3 business days we email you to discuss exactly what you need — for example, if you want data for more countries than just the US, we agree a price, billed per year, based on which markets you get. After the API contract is signed, you sign up and sign in to the account you want the access on, and we grant API access to that account within 1 business day. You can then start testing; if you need more time to get your system ready we can add extra days. Technical help is available throughout by email or live chat.
Yes. Every account starts on the Free tier with a limited monthly quota, so you can evaluate the API before choosing a paid plan. Cancelling a paid plan simply returns the account to Free.
Yes. Paid plans can connect Akinda as an MCP server, so assistants like Claude can call compliance checks, reports, screening, and purification directly. See the MCP section in the docs to connect.
